Effort and Dedication

What we nurture will grow. Everyday I walk my dogs in the woods, and every day we take the same route. When we first started to explore the woods outback I would get “lost” or a little disoriented and at times discouraged that I didn’t know exactly where we were. But then after weeks of winding through trees, moving sticks and fallen branches, I started to see the evolution of my efforts. Paths have started emerging through the woods that hadn’t been before, that I could barely imagine before when looking into the dense forest of trees.

It’s symbolic to me that my yoga practice on the mat comes with me into all my interactions with the world. How I’d like things to be and things I want to be able to do, all require that I show up regularly, dedication, and that I apply energy into the thing, effort. And although the outcome may not be what I anticipated, it’s usually even better than I could have imagined. I take this into my relationships with my family and friends and the things that I want to spend my time doing. Yoga has shown me that it is safe to put my faith in my efforts and dedication.

What are the things I’d like to be doing more of? Well, we won’t win the lottery if we aren’t buying and tickets. Starting anywhere and showing up regularly will only result in growth. What are you going to nurture?
